I also made a youtube video of Steindl’s Green Mudeye the link is

https://youtu.be/kiXO0M3SkDA

Developed around 1960 by Adrienne and Peter Scheindl to imitate the Hemi-cordulia tau or more commonly known as the Mudeye found at Lake Eucumbene in NSW.

Personally I have used this fly with some success at Lake Burbury in Tasmania when cast at smutting fish in and around trees or stick lines.

Hook:                    Kamasan B170 or B175 #10 to #14

Thread:                Black Uni-Thread 8/0 or 70 Denier UTC Ultra Thread

Tail:                        Guinea Fowl (small)

Body:                    Med Light Olive Chenille

Back:                     Med Black Chenille

Hackle:                 Ringneck Pheasant  Covert Feather

  1. Tie in small Guinea Fowl feather. Convex side towards you. (Neck, covert or thigh feather). If you have a larger feather tie in mid shank and then trap fibres as thread is wrapped to bend. Flare fibres and wrap thread behind fibres to maintain the flare. Alternative place trimmed fibres in a dubbing loop.

  1. Wind feather, take a few turns of thread behind feather causing it to flare.

  1. Tie in black chenille on top of hook shank and directly in front of feather.

  1. Tie in pheasant feather - convex side towards you and green chenille behind eye.

  1. Wind green chenille to hook bend, secure with thread. Take thread forward, wind chenille forward and trim.

  1. Wind front feather in the usual way, trim waste.

  1. Take black chenille over top of green chenille, pull tight , tie down and trim.

  1. Whip finish and varnish head.
