This pattern is my go to fly for the Tyenna River. The fish there just love this little fly, it floats well and red rib just sets it off in the right light.

 

Hook:                    Mustad 9405A Size #12 or Black Magic I14 or  Kamasan B440 (Upturned eye dry fly hook.)

Tail:                        Grey Dun Cock Hackle

Tag:                        White Antron

Rib:                        Red Enamelled Copper Wire

Body:                    Dyed Brown Grizzle Hackle

Under-body:      Tan Arctic Fox or Possum Dubbing

Hackle:                  Dyed Brown Grizzle Hackle

 

  1. Tie in tail and tag along with rib & tie off. Secure body hackle at 2/3 point and tie off. Return thread to tail tie in point.
  2. Apply dubbing to thread and form smooth under-body stopping at 2/3 point.
  3. Wind body hackle in even turns to 2/3 point. Wind rib through body hackle and tie off.
  4. Clip body hackle to shape.
  5. Tie in hackle and apply 3-4 turns, tie off. Whip finish and apply head cement.
