hosted by Colleen and Bill Beck. They became more regular from 1990 since when we have
had some memorable dinners at various venues - The Black Buffalo Hotel (1990 - 1995), 'Le
Provencal' in South Hobart (1996,1997), the Royal Yacht Club at Sandy Bay (1999 - 2002),
the Hope and Anchor Tavern (2003,2004) a number of years at Laurie and Grace Matcham's
at Lenah Valley (2009 - 2011) and previously at Laurie's place in Blackman's Bay, at Hadleys
Hotel in 2014 (courtesy of Grace Matcham), and most recently in 2015 at the Cascade
Brewery Function Centre, "Woodstock", in South Hobart.
For many years the Club has had a Christmas function and this was often held at one of our
members’ residences. Ross and Del Scrim hosted a number of these (eg in 1974 and 1977),
as did Laurie Matcham (eg in 1978) and as have Brian and Helen McCullagh when they lived
at Acton (1996 -2003). They were also held at commercial locations (1975 Mt Nelson Motor
Inn, 1976 Polish Club, 1980 Explorer Motel, Mt Stuart). From 2004 the Christmas BBQ
morphed into Christmas drinks which previously had been held in addition.
In 1988 and from 2004 to 2008 Christmas drinks were held at the Black Buffalo. In 2009
Laurie and Grace Matcham hosted drinks at their Lenah Valley home and from 2010 to 2015
they have been held at the Lenah Valley RSL.
There may well be other members who have hosted both Annual dinners and Christmas
functions before my joining the Club in 1980 or who know of other venues and dates of
social functions and I would appreciate any additional information that Members can give
me.
We have also had two important celebrations of Club Milestones - our 21st and 50th
Anniversary Dinners.
The 21st Anniversary dinner was held at the Polish Club on the corner of Augusta Road and
Main Road, New Town on 26 August 1977 (Photo series on disc).
